Development of subsurface drainage systems: Discharge – retention – recharge

چکیده

Sufficient freshwater is needed for water dependent sectors such as agriculture, nature, drinking water, and industry. However, even in low-lying, flood prone countries like the Netherlands, climate change, weather extremes, economic growth, urbanization, land subsidence increased food production will make it more complex to guarantee sufficient all sectors. Furthermore, frequency amplitude of extremely dry wet conditions expected increase. The current Dutch management system not designed anticipate these extremes. Over last decades, drained agricultural fields, consolidation urbanization resulted declining groundwater tables. Additionally, fresh demand different (agriculture, industry, water) increased, causing an pressure on regional system. As a consequence, annual table sandy soil areas dropped over time with effect that, nowadays, becoming scarce periods. In this paper we provide insight shifting strategy Netherlands (1950–2020), corresponding drainage systems, developing from conventional (approx. 1950–1990), controlled (1990’s onwards), adaptive (2010 onwards) subirrigation systems (2018 onwards). levels crop yields, based both international literature measurements field pilots. Although can contribute improved moisture growth scale, show that volume be large could put significant available sources. Therefore, efficient responsible use external sources (e.g. surface treated waste or groundwater) required. Finally, implementation asks correct balance: requires integral, catchment-wide approach.

Effect of Drainage Parameters Change on Amount of Drain Discharge in Subsurface Drainage Systems

One of the most important factors for appropriate performance of subsurface drainage systems is having adequate discharge for drains. For this purpose, knowledge about effect of drainage parameters change on drain discharge is essential in subsurface drainage systems. In this article, using change all of the drainage parameters by EnDrain software, changes of drains discharge has been investiga...

Integrated Water and Nitrogen Fertilizer Management Using Modeling of System Dynamics Approach in Sugarcane Farmlands with Subsurface Drainage Systems

Using water and fertilizer management at the farm level can be increased water use efficiency and reduce the volume of drainage water, fertilizer losses, and other pollutants in farmland with deep underground drains such as Khuzestan agro-industrial Companies. In the present study, a comprehensive simulation model for the water cycle and the nitrogen dynamics modeling was used for water and fer...

Subsurface Drainage of Modern Putting Greens

Subsurface drainage involves both intensity and capacity attributes. Intensity of subsurface drainage refers to how rapidly a root zone drains. Capacity, on the other hand, refers to the extent of excess (gravitational) water removal from the root zone. Consequently, discussions of putting green drainage often become confused since the expression improved drainage can imply improved drainage ca...
